Scumrun 2013 - Charity Announced

The Scumrun team are delighted to announce the chosen charity for this year’s event. A huge number of fantastic children’s charities were suggested, and WellChild are now confirmed as the 2013 beneficiary charity. WellChild help sick children and their families throughout the UK as they deal with the consequences of serious illness and complex conditions. Their mission is to reach as many children and young people as they can, year after year. WellChild focus on three key areas - care, support and research - and their involvement in so many aspects of children's health puts them in a unique position. WellChild Chief Executive Colin Dyer said: "We are delighted that WellChild have been chosen as the beneficiarly charity for Scumrun 2013. It is a fantastic event for WellChild to be involved in and will really help us in our work of care, support and research to improve the lives of seriously ill children and their families across the UK." One of the most rewarding, but hardest tasks of each year’s event kick off, has been particularly difficult this time around due to the calibre and quantity of charities put forward. Scumrun 2012 - Celebrity Announced

Tiff Needell launches the Scumrun for Sparks

British racing driver and television presenter Tiff Needell is launching this four-day driving challenge on 3 May 2012 at Thruxton Motor Circuit.

Tiff, who currently presents Fifth Gear on Channel 5, will be putting his racing skills to good use, offering tips and advice to the 100 cars taking part in the action-packed journey across Europe. Participants will take on new challenges in mystery locations each day.

Tiff Needell said, “I am thrilled to be taking part in such an exciting event and I’m looking forward to meeting all the incredible teams involved. The medical breakthroughs Sparks make possible make a huge difference to children and families across the UK and across the world, so I am thrilled to be helping this hugely worthwhile cause.”

Scumrun 2012 - Launch Venue Announced

The Scumrun organisers are delighted to announce that Thruxton Motor Circuit is confirmed as the launch venue for the 2012 event.

Thruxton is one of the longest race circuits in the UK and considered as the UK’s fastest circuit. Located near Andover, Hampshire, Thruxton will host the Scumrun 2012 launch party taking place on Thursday 03 May 2012. Here teams will register and drivers sign on will take place, alongside comprehensive safety briefings, speeches and some celebratory drinks prior to the group departing for the docks and setting off on their four day European adventure.

Family members are welcome to wave off loved ones, as are members of the public wishing to catch a glimpse of the eccentrically modified cars and fancy dress!

Each year we look for a different venue with something unique to offer the event and participants. We’ve got a few surprises up our sleeve which will be announced in the new year and we are looking forward to the best event yet!” Comprehensive details of the Scumrun 2012 launch party timings will be sent to participants closer to the event.

2012 will be Scumrun’s seventh year and participants are raising money for SPARKS, a fantastic charity dedicated to funding and championing pioneering research into any condition affecting mums-to-be, babies and children.

Scumrun 2012 charity Sparks a new challenge

Scumrun are delighted to announce that the beneficiary charity for the 2012 event will be Sparks, a leading children’s medical research charity.

About Scumrun

Scumrun is the biggest and original banger rally taking 100 vehicles and in excess of 250 people around Europe for a four day challenge each year. Participants must drive cars not exceeding £500 in value, round an undisclosed route where destinations are revealed each morning and various challenges take place on route.  Now in its seventh year Scumrun 2012 aims to raise over £50,000 yet again for the nominated charity.

As a leading children’s medical research charity Sparks are dedicated to funding and championing pioneering research into any condition affecting mums-to-be, babies and children. Since 1991, Sparks have committed over £20 million into pioneering research projects across a wide spectrum of medical conditions including childhood cancers, cerebral palsy, premature birth and spina bifida.

Through the research Sparks fund, they aim to improve the quality of life for children and families affected by serious illness or disability today, whilst seeking ways to better diagnose, treat and prevent these conditions in the future.
